CALIS, Spain — U. S. drug giant Pfizer Inc. said it was conducting a study to determine if it would pay the company more than $1.3 billion for its pain drugs, as well as the drugs Celebrex, Vioxx and Anacin, in the United States.
The results will be released on Thursday, with Pfizer and its European partner Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. joining in the clinical trial.
The results, which are expected to be published on the 2-2 week trial, were announced by Pfizer’s chairman and chief executive, Charles Shaffer, on Thursday.
Pfizer is expected to pay the company more than $1 billion, the company said, and its shares were up 12.5% to $1.28.
Pfizer is among eight European companies that are expected to begin the study, followed by Teva, Teva and Novartis.
It is not yet clear how much of the $1.3 billion it will receive from the drug company will be spent on Celebrex, Vioxx and Anacin.
Pfizer also is facing a legal challenge by Pfizer's subsidiary, AstraZeneca, for a settlement over the sale of a controlling interest in a generic version of the drug called Plavix.
Pfizer said the settlement is in its first quarter of 2016, but it is not expected to last until November 2017.
Pfizer has been accused of hiding the revenue from Pfizer's patent litigation with Pfizer Inc. for several years. However, the company has said it is not making any revenue from the patent.
